My Impressive Saturday(YSP)

It is enjoyable when walking in the sun through the path in NUS campus. But it is even more pleasant looking at quiet night sceneries in the evening. If sunshine is the passion of NUS, then the gentle breeze and silent moonlight is its serene. I didn’t realize until last Saturday.
I had a totally busy Saturday. After attending a lecture about QF and meeting my host family, I went to a small church outside the NUS, which was especially exciting.
I as well as my team members of camping was invited by our befriender several days ago. My curiosity was evoked when I was told what we were going to do --- making dumplings! There were many people chatting and busy preparing when we arrived. We washed our hands carefully and joined them. Actually, it is a shame that we didn’t know how to do it as a Chinese. Fortunately there were some seniors we could turn to.
On the surface, it seems like a piece of cake when we watched our parents make dumplings in China. But, you know, it is quite a difficult thing. At the beginning, we shaped the flour mixed with water into something like pancakes. It required much compatibility of both hands. Then we add stuffs of both vegetable and meat on the pancake. Finally, hide the stuffs in the pancake. According to every individual’s taste of beauty, the dumplings were made into different shapes. Some of them were so funny especially those made by Singaporeans. The ones in the shape of buns and sausages in particular stand out as examples of “Singapore style”. To be frank, those so-called dumplings made me speechless. But the most important thing was that we all had fun.
This was only a part of the party that night. Later we also had spicy Indian food and Vietnamese rolled-pancakes. We sat and chat casually with church members including a professor of NUS. They were willing to help us with our English. I didn’t imagine that we would be treated so kindly in Singapore. During our trip going back to Eton Hall, I saw beautiful sceneries of NUS outside the window. A pleasant mood suddenly occurred. Not only because of the sceneries, but also the warm atmosphere around me which was created by locals. Thank you, my friends. I have enjoyed myself very much. I am always glad to have time with you whenever it is possible.

  9. Singapore, day or night is a beautiful place. It is indeed great that you spent time with the locals. This is very important, to get to know us better and for us to get to know you better. Indeed, food may have the same name, but can taste entirely different. I am glad you had Indian food and Vietnamese food. Singapore has most of the international cuisines. Enjoy them.
