Common sense

Last week, the most words we said in class were probably "Generally Speaking". And every time I heard about these words, I always reminded some other words "Common sense". Yeah, in the daily life, we usually use our common sense to think about most of the things just happen around us. I don't know if it is right to do things like that, but in fact it is not always right.

Let’s look at a situation. You helped a person who got hurt in a traffic accident and sent him to a hospital and paid the medical bills for him. But then he accused you that it was you who hurt him on purpose. This time you had no ideas but just payed for all the bills.

Actually there are many things happened in the real life just around us. And let’s think about it in a way of common sense. The fact is that you help a person in trouble, but there is nothing can tell the truth . In accordance with “common sense” inference, if it was not you who knocked him down, you might not need to care about the injured, you should not hurry to send the injured to the hospital and should not help people to pay medical bills. Otherwise, you did all those just because of your guilty conscience according to the common sense. So , it was right to ask you to pay for all the bills, it was your fault that you did not follow “common sense”. And you probably deserve it! Sentence was over, punishment was over, and then they even sent a “runner” to “interview” you: “If the next time someone next to you fall, will you still help him?” Oh, my gad! Do you still allow people to live in? They did this just like to dig a pit and then force you jumping in. If you said you would still help him, it went against to your “common sense”, calling such would even be ruined. If you said that you would not help anymore, it also went against to your conscience. The scientific development has lasted for so many years, but if we still settle a lawsuit according to such confusing “common sense”, I think even Justice Bao would come out from the thick soil to contempt these shrimps , even the god would laugh heavily when human being think in this “common sense”way just for a while.

In another words, according to “common sense”, then uncle Lei Feng must had done a lot of evil things, so he helped many other strangers quietly to reduce his own “guilt”. While, those young men who sacrificed their lives to save people also must because they pushed them into the water first. But then realized their conscience condemned, so they rescued them from the river without caring about their own lives. If not, what are they for? Then the judges also are likely to doubt, according to the “common sense”, if it is not because you do something wrong first, why would strangers people are so enthusiastic about it?

Maybe you will think that these ideas are very strange and unaccepted. But it is just the real meanings of common sense. I just express it in a different way. I think you will understand the common sense better after the reading.

  2. At first I am happy that you could think about a question so deeply. But from my personal opinion, what you talked about are the knee-jerk response of human beings, not common sense. Maybe my understanding is wrong. you just give another definition of common sense. So I just want you to check it.

  3. Well as you said, you have a different interpretation of common sense. In daily life, our conscience tells us that when people are in need of help. we should. Similarly, when you need help, you will be thankful when people come forward.
