My First Novel in Singapore(YSN)

Recently, I have read a book named . At first, I just picked it up accidently in the corner of a bookshelf in centre library. I didn't realize how interesting it is then.
Acturally, the plot is a little bit old. However, it attracts me a lot. It is a combination of both dry, dessicated mysteries of Egypt's religion of death and bright splendour of Greece. Somewhere far away, there lived such a group of people. They were brave, diligent and superstitious. All the work were done for the Archon, who had the highest position of the whole country, except the God. The God did exist according to the novel. But he never showed up. The only one he talked to is the Speaker. The Speaker was in charge of announce what the God had said to all the citizens. So, of course, the pure citizens would do whatever as the Speaker said. Also, there must be a General who controled the army.Unfortunately, the Speaker and the General were not as innocent as their people, they betrayed the Archon, the God, and the whole country.
The Rain Queen was angry with them. So, through the years, not even a drop of rain came. However, Mariny(the leading role) saved all the people from the endless drought. She used to be a vulnerabe girl. After the puppet Archon killed himself out of guilty, she was selected as one of the Nine which was also a high position. She was choosen because she was silly. But she turned out to be the very person who destroyed the betrayers' dream. The process was difficult and dangerous, making the plot undulate. Anyone wore a kind smile could be a spy. Anything which seemed to be achieved might turn out to be a mirage. Under the shadow of the traitors, everyone suffered from drought, scorching and stifling murk. Every time Mariny was doing something slinkingly for the people's sake, my heart would be trembling as hers, too. I was affraid that she was caught. Finally, she found the genuine Archon, a ten-year-old boy who had been waiting for them
for many years. Then they made him the new Archon and brought the rain.
The good must win while the evil must die. It seems to be the certain ending of most novels. So is this one. Even though I hate it when the Speaker and the General did their conspiracy. I have to admit that sly people have true love. They loved each other for years. The tragedy derived from their going on a wrong way which never allowed them to return. When the Speaker died, her lover's life became weightless.
I recommend this book to all of you. Although there're many new words, you can always enjoy immersing yourselves into the unique Egyptian and Greek world.
