The Earth Hour

On the night of last Saturday, March 27th, all the students in Eton Hall took part in a special activity-the Earth Hour. Most of us found it meaningful.
Some days ago, we were informed that on the night of Saturday, we should turn off the lights of our dormitories for one hour and there were plenty of interesting activities waiting for us during that time. So when it came to 8:30pm, our leader turned off the light and I went out with my friends. It was so peculiar that nearly all the lights were turned off-only left few essential lighting facilities and it was very dim. I went downstairs following the crowd. Some time later, we assembled on the playground where many students performing energetic dances. After the performance, we went to the canteen to take part in activity. Finally at 9:30pm, we counted down and when we counted zero, all the light were turned up we cheered together. It was really a wonderful experience.
I was very glad that we turned off the light initiatively although the electricity wasn't cut down. Later I knew from the Internet that almost every countries had taken part in the Earth Hour activity. Many famous places of interests also turned off the light such as the Bird Nest in Beijing, the pyramids in Egypt, the Sydney Opera......the purpose of this activity is to enhance people's consciousness about saving resource as the resource of our earth is becoming less and less. But we should not only save energy in only such an hour. We should be aware of this all the time. As the world developing fast, the need of resource becomes greater, but if we exploit it without limit, what will we left for our descendants? The situation is so severe that we should form the perspective of saving and regard every hour as the earth hour.

  1. Yes, we sould keep saving energy rather than merely follow crowd to do it in a specific hour.

I was impressed that we were discussing about it's on earth 19:30 or 20:30 to switch off the light in our own chat room, when a senior typed out "So formalistic..." Then, we switched off the light immediately and no one in our dorm complained.:D

  2. What's a pity that I fell asleep before 8:30 that night...

  3. Yes, it's high time that we saved electronic energy from now! But it was a pity that I didn't take part in any activities that night.

  4. It's wonderful that all SM3 students decided to participate in Earth Hour. I did too. Like you I decided to do some things I wanted to do, but have not! That is look at the stars and the moon and the night sky. The whole evening sky was so immense that I felt so tiny, like a speck. I tried counting the stars, but soon was not able to keep track. All too soon the lights came on from my neighbours' houses. We greeted one another, then life goes on as usual. I am more conscious now of how I use electricity.

  5. Hah,we really turned off the lights, but played computers in the dark! In another way, we comsumed electricity.Anyway,we can notice the importance of the very hour in that day.I really hope there being a Earth day when we can't use electricity all day and just play at "night",even it is not practical.
